Fishing Guides on South Padre and Port Isabel
Fishing Guides fall into three categories and two groups:
The two groups are Private Charters & Public Head Boats
The three categories are, Bay Fishing, Near Shore Fishing and Deep Sea Fishing.
Each group and category offers different experiences and a range wide range of cost. There are a least a half dozen head-boats operating in the South Padre and Port Isabel area. Prices range from $25 to $60.
There are over 150 private fishing guides operating in the area. Most private charters range from $350 to $400 for bay fishing, and $400 to $1,000 for near shore fishing, and $800 to $2,000 for deep sea fishing.
Bay fishing guides specialize in shallow water drifting and sight casting for reds on the flats of the Laguna Madre and South Bay. They are also good at finding and catching trout, flounder, snook and some big offshore fish that come into the channels and jetties.
Offshore fishing offers several species accessible within a few miles, including mahi mahi, grouper, spanish mackerel, tuna, kingfish, amberjack, cobia, dolphin, shark, barracuda, tarpon, and snapper.
Deep sea fishing for big billfish like marlin, sailfish and swordfish you have to go to the clear blue waters of the gulf stream. The blue water is always shifting and can be as far as sixty miles out or more. These charter boats are equipped with fighting chairs and deckhands to help.
